If you want to spoil your loved one with a really romantic dinner, which would you think is the more romantic: A dinner on a cruise ship or a dinner in a small, cozy restaurant overlooking the harbor? To get you thinking, let's discuss a dinner in cruise VS dinner in a restaurant.

A cruise ship dinner will obviously be more expensive. You'll have to book a whole trip before you have access to this experience. Although it's often possible to enjoy a dinner on a stationary cruise ship in your local harbor, that's not what we are referring to here. We're talking about the real thing: a dinner on a cruise ship that's sailing on the open seas. There has to be a live orchestra playing background music and the movement of the ship must always be there to remind you that you're not on solid ground.

There is no doubt that one gets romantic restaurants onshore as well. Cities like Paris, Cairo or Istanbul can certainly form the exotic backdrop to a lovely candle lit dinner full of romance.

But in some way there is just something unique about a dinner on a cruise ship that no onshore restaurant can really copy.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that you are away from your everyday life. To an extent the ship feels like a different universe. You are detached from all the problems at the office. You are living in the moment, savoring everything you experience.

Of course you can expect good food on cruises. They only employ professional chefs of the highest caliber. The ship has a fully equipped restaurant on board and only the best ingredients will be used. The service will also be excellent, since cruise ships make sure that they have enough staff to cater to the needs of their passengers.

Very often there will be live music. Not the noise that sometimes go through as music at modern restaurants, but gentle music that fits in with the ambiance of the restaurant. There will also most likely be an opportunity for you and your loved one to dance.

It is the custom on a cruise ship that you will dress neatly when going to dinner. The ladies always like this. It gives them an opportunity to show off that nice evening dress they bought especially for the trip. Men don't always appreciate it, but if it puts your partner in a romantic mood who is going to complain?

The night before your cruise ends there will normally be a very special function called the Captain's ball. Evening wear is customary, since the captain himself will be present. These nights are usually a festival of good food, great wine and enjoying each others company. This is how memories should be made!

If you are in the financial position to ever delight in a romantic dinner on board of a cruise ship, grab the opportunity with both hands. It's something you will remember the rest of your life. Don't even try to make a comparison between a dinner in cruise VS dinner in a restaurant - there is none.
