When you have a small kid, you need to find stimulating adventures. Or at least that is what I think. This also helps to get creative with places that sometimes you don't think of as potential travel destinations. I would never have realized what a gem we are sitting on if I hadn't gotten married to an academic. This thought doesn't apply to only Costa Rica but every corner of the world. These amazing places I'm talking about are:
UNIVERSITIES
It is known as for the bright and also for not-so bright minds that if you are visiting a town where you can find universities, they are definitely worth checking out because. Here are some reasons:
It's a great way to see local students attend school and basically you get to see how their lives are. This means learning more about local culture.
In these places you will always find a lot of advertisement for upcoming events, concerts and fun stuffs. This means you will find out about many interesting events.
If you have a child, they get to run free without worrying about a car running them over! This is because Universities usually have big open areas.
Another great reason is the Cafeteria food! Who can say no to some good cafeteria food? And it is cheap as well!
Each and every educational facility houses beautiful gardens and interesting buildings. These are usually open to general public and can be a wealth of information. The students are very friendly there and love to speak to everyone. I'd suggest you to look at the closest university (UNA in Heredia and UCR in San Pedro close to San Jose) and then go for a beer or a quick meal on its outskirts.
The students are very friendly there and love to speak to everyone. I guarantee you to have a stimulating day, full of activities and local culture. It doesn't matter which language you speak in, the places are written in bold letters.
