Of the many hotels in and around Cusco, one Cusco hotel really stood out as being different from the rest. This one is run on the lines of a private manor house, one of Peru's boutique hotels that caters for just a handful of paying guests at any one time. This Cusco hotel is La Casona which has just 11 suites, converted from an original 16th century manor house and renovated to the highest possible standard.
Ideally Placed for Excursions Guests who stay at this hotel are ensured total privacy, peace and relaxation and, if they do book tours from the hotel, the tour coordinators must be met at the foyer of this Cusco hotel, or outside in the grounds. The hotel itself is kept very private in order to preserve the seclusion of the guests.
La Casona has been designed specifically to be an oasis of calm and a tranquil, luxury retreat to get away from the bustle of the world for a while. Nevertheless, visitors to this hotel are able to book visits and tours through their personal concierge service, knowing that all details will be carefully taken care of.
Tea-making Tour This Inkaterra Cusco hotel is an ideal location for some of the incredible excursions you can take whilst stay there. One of the expeditions you can go on is the tea-making trip which is very hands-on and an ideal trip to take kids on. Basically, it involves picking the leaves from the tea bushes and then grinding them by hand using a grinding stone.
Once you have finished doing that you can exchange them for ready dried leaves which you can then make into tea-bags - although, to be quite honest, I don't see the necessity when you can use loose tea just as well. Once you get back to your Cusco hotel you can then make a pot of tea from the tea leaves you have brought back with you. For kids this feels like a great achievement and certainly a good learning experience for them.
Visit to the Bear Sanctuary Another trip you can do is to the bear sanctuary which we booked from our Cusco hotel. Here the bears have been rescued by the lodge from unthinkable conditions and, although they are kept in cages their lives are a far cry from the torment of their previous lives. Since these poor animals will never be able to be released into the wild, the cages they are kept in can only be regarded as a mixed improvement: at least, at this location, they are treated well.
