Montezuma beach is definitely a trek! However, once you get over the land-water-land travel adventure, you'll quickly forget all about it!

It won't take more than 8 hrs if you are coming from San Jose. To get there you need to take a bus to Puntarenas (2 hours), then wait until the ferry takes off (1 hour minimum), the ferry ride (1 hour), and then take another bus to Montezuma (2 hours). You will be lucky to arrive on time for the sunset.

But as I said before, you will forget all that and emerge yourself into the Montezuma scene.

So what's so lovely about Montezuma?

There are so many things which will make you fall in love with this place but I will keep it short by listing only my special favorites:

Howler Monkeys - This is a place where these animals abound. You'll awake every day to the lovely howls of these creatures. You will also get to see them foraging for food.

Healthy and Organic Eats - For some unknown reason this part of the world has a bunch of delicious, super healthy restaurants and cafes. You just have to try them out!

Howler Monkeys - The howl of these monkeys will wake you up every morning. You can also have the opportunity to see them foraging for food.

Bohemians - I'm not a hippie or a tree-hugger, however this town seems to draw them from far and near. They bring a super natural feel to the town and put you in a fresh mind.

The Beach - Yes, the beach. You can't forget about the most important part: Montezuma beach.

My rating system is scaled to the way my son reacts to a place. And let me tell you, this one ran high on his list of favorites and mine.

Note: You can also take a water taxi from Jaco directly to Montezuma. This will make the whole ride less than 2 hours long.
