Thinking about going on a camping trip? Do you know where it is you want to go? If not, give some serious consideration to camping in the San Juan Islands. The "high" season is coming up and more and more people are going camping for their vacation. Decide now where it is you want to go so that you can make reservations if needed to make sure you are able to get the campsite of your choice.
A big reason to make your decision now is so that you have a better chance of getting the campground and campsite you really want to go to. Not all parke=s require a reservation but if they do, and you book now, your chances are much better. If the spot is already taken that is OK because the San Juan Islands have a lot of different campgrounds and campsites and you can pick an alternate.
Speaking of choosing a camping spot, which is also commonly referred to as a campsite, you may be wondering what you should look for in one. In all honesty, the perfect, campsite is likely to vary from person to person. It actually depends on your wants and needs, as well as the wants and needs of those in your camping group. Although there may be some variations of what you are looking for, you may want to take some of the factors mentioned below into consideration, when choosing the perfect campsite.
To help make your decision keep in mind WHO is going camping. Is it just you and your significant other? If so maybe the "peace and quiet" campsite is best for the two of you. Are you bringing the kids with you? Very rarely do youngsters enjoy the peace and quiet. They want, and actually need, to be active. Are you taking your parents with you? Are they active and energetic? Do they prefer a slower pace on vacation? These are all things that must be considered when choosing your camping location.
Don't forget to think about the safety of those, and yourself, going camping. If you decide on a campsite that is far, far away from help you stand a chance of not getting timely emergency assistance if you need it. If everyone going with you is fit and active and you are taking a good First Aid kit with you you should be OK to venture into the wilderness.
The San Juan Islands offer a multitude of campsites on islands of various sizes. Choose a site that accommodates the size of your camping party. Make sure you choose a campground that you will not feel crowded in. There should be enough open space between campsites so that you do not feel you are being squeezed in between other campers.
The above mentioned factors are just a few of the many factors that you may want to take into consideration, when choosing a camping spot for your next camping adventure. As a reminder, not all campground parks allow you to choose your owing camping sites, but a large number of them do.
