Lake of the Woods is located in Minnesota, near the Canadian border. In addition to the fishing on the lake, you will find many forms of wildlife. No matter what season of the year, you will find Lake of the Woods fishing is among the best in the world.
This large lake offers many bays located along the miles of shoreline. There are also over 1400 islands located on the lake. While here, you may fish for Northern pike, sauger, walleye, small mouth bass or perch. It seems as if something is always biting at the lake.
In the spring and fall as the lake temperatures are starting to warm from winter or cool from the summer, fishing is best in the shallow water. During the summer the fish enjoy the shade of the rock reefs and fishing is good there. Winter months are excellent for ice fishing.
Ice fishing huts are allowed on the lake through the end of March. You will find several places to rent the huts as well as the equipment for ice fishing if you do not have your own equipment. Ice fishing allows you to fish twenty or thirty miles out on the ice.
The walleye season ends about two weeks after the ice huts must be removed from the lake. Even though that season is closed, fishing remains good for other fish year round. There is no closed season for northern pike. You can fish for these trophy fish year round.
You can find many things to do other than Lake of the Woods fishing while at the lake. There is something for the entire family. They may enjoy snowmobiles during the winter months while golf is good from late spring through early fall. In addition you there are many craft fairs, flea markets and shopping opportunities for everyone.
