Ixtapa is on Mexico's Pacific coast in the municipality of Jose Azueta located in the state of Guerrero. Ixtapa is a government-planned tourist resort area built in the early 1970's on a former coconut plantation. Whereas, the nearby town of Zihuatanejo has the charm of traditional Mexican culture. Zihuatanejo is located by a well-protected bay with beaches to explore and enjoy.

Ixtapa has a sleek resort atmosphere is a nice contrast to its neighbor, which offers tourists two types of environments to explore. You will find here hotels on the beach, modern condos (which also offer time-shares), shops, bars, discos and restaurants and more. Here are also family friendly entertainment and accommodations. The region has much to offer visitors who come to enjoy a change of pace and time to recharge their batteries with a spot of relaxation or even some vigorous fishing. Sports fishing enthusiasts will find this vacation one to remember. Sailfish, billfish, blue marlin, roosterfish, jack cravelle, black skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna are the main regional varieties. For the less seasoned fisherman or woman, able guides will show you the way.

Transport to Ixtapa

The regional airport is about half an hour away from the municipality. During the tourist season direct flights to the airport from certain locations might be found. Visitors should check into this when they consider the best modes of transport for them. Travel from Mexico City's airport to Ixtapa means taking a bus or renting a car and driving. The bus ride takes eight hour and tourists looking into this option should ask about the most comfortable buses that are available. Driving yourself from Mexico City will take you via either Autopista Del Sol or Autopista Siglo XXI. Please contact your hotel for information.

Food and entertainment available in Ixtapa or places nearby

You may choose to try what is offered by the resorts, explore the area or venture to other destinations within the state. It is recommended that tours be booked in advance as entertainment opportunities such as fishing charters, swimming with dolphin and riding can get booked up. Downtown Zihuatanejo has restaurants and other food purveyers with most of them situated near the public market. The town also has other shopping shopping and art galleries to browse in if you are so inclined. A water taxi from Zihuatanejo's main pier can also take you further out to Playa Las Gatas for even more opportunities to eat and shop. There is plenty of shopping and venues for daylight and after hours entertainment.

Every October, you may decide to watch local boating and rafting enthusiasts participate in the San Jeronimito River Regatta near the town of Petatlan located just south of Ixtapa. And at the end of January if you are there at the time, there is the Zihuatanejo Sail Fest that benefits the Netzahualcoyotl Primary School. For all that may be enjoyed on this Ixtapa vacation, please check online and with your selected travel agent. You may also find useful the helpful guidance obtained by calling the various resorts of the area as you finalize your plans.
