An Ixtapa, Mexico vacation offers the best of all worlds. The area boasts beautiful white sand beaches ideal for all water sports, has first class amenities, and proximity to the tranquil old town of neighboring Zihuatanejo. Ixtapa is a modern resort area, but still much smaller than Cancun and Acapulco.

Located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, Ixtapa is a couple of hours' north of Acapulco. The weather is ideal, the average temperature being 78.8 degrees Fahrenheit. It rains very few days out of the year. An ecological reserve exists on a good part of the land called Ixtapa, which lends to a less congested more relaxed atmosphere. The land is hilly and tropical, its coast occupied by beautiful beaches and secluded coves.

Ixtapa-Zihautanejo International Airport is minutes from the resort area, and has nonstop flights from many United States cities. Once you are at the resort, local transportation via taxi is reliable. If you plan to explore areas outside of Ixtapa, a rental car, available at the airport, is necessary.

A number of excellent boat charters are offered, as Ixtapa is very popular for sport fishing. The majority of the fish caught are sailfish, marlin and rooster fish. Local fishing captains are well-versed at finding the best fishing spots just off the coast. On land, golfers have two premium golf courses to choose from. Closer to the water, pristine beaches abound, perfect for sunbathing and a plethora of water sports.

Snorkeling and scuba diving off Ixtapa beaches is idyllic. This is the site of the southwestern coastal plain, providing many interesting dive areas among the volcanic rock and marine sediment. There are over fifty well-known dive areas. Multitudes of certified dive schools offer every training level, along with the necessary equipment to make diving safe and fun. Ixtapa's beaches are memorable, ranging from those in protected bays excellent for snorkelers and swimmers, to beaches with big waves desirable for surfing. One of the most popular dive sites is off Ixtapa Island, a short water taxi ride from the mainland beach. Other popular beaches great for snorkeling and scuba diving are Playa El Palmar and Playa Linda.

The area has multitudes of top notch restaurants and wonderful shopping. Much of this can be found in the quaint village of Zihuatanejo, which offers lovely seaside cafes, wonderful markets selling local crafts, as well as a beautiful promenade by the sea. The close proximity of Ixtapa to Zihuatanejo allows visitors to split their time between both places.

An Ixtapa, Mexico vacation offers a huge variety of modern resort amenities and activities, along with a tranquil atmosphere without the crowds experienced at larger resort areas. This destination allows travelers to experience comfort and luxury along with quaint old-time Mexican character.
