If you are someone who likes to go hiking or walking them you need to make sure that you have the right equipment for your tips. As well as a good pair of boots you are also going to need a good quality rucksack which provisions and other equipment for staying out overnight or away for several days. However when it comes to choosing which rucksacks are going to be right for you may prove difficult as there are so many different ones to select from.

In order to help you determine just which rucksack you should purchase we provide some points below that you may find useful and keep in mind when making your purchase.

1. First off make sure that you sit down so that you can then work out what is going to be carried in it. This way you are in a better position to determine exactly what size rucksack you need. Although buying a big size may seem cost effective often you will over laden it and result in you carrying more than you actually need to so increasing the weight you are lifting. Whereas although you may think it is better to go for a smaller cheap size model this can prove a problem as well as you will often find that more of the equipment you need to take with you has to be secured to the outside of the rucksack. This results in the balance of the rucksack being altered and so more difficult to carry.

2. You now need to look at how well the rucksack fits on your back and so don't be afraid to go to a store that specializing in such equipment in order that you can try several types out. It is a good idea to actually get the store to put around about the same amount of weight that you will be expecting to carry in yours when out hiking or camping.

3. When trying out different rucksacks look at where the straps are sitting and if they offer enough support so that the weight inside it is distributed evenly. As you try them out in the store lean backwards and forwards when wearing it and also sway from side to say. This way you can quickly determine if these movements are likely to cause the rucksack to move and make the weight inside that in turn can lead to you becoming unbalanced.

Along with walking around the store with the rucksack on your back look to see if they have any stairs that you can climb up and down as this will further help to identify if the weight remains evenly distributed or not. Plus by carrying around the rucksack for a while you can identify minor problems that in the future when you have been carrying yours for some time could become major.

4. When it comes to the shoulder straps on your rucksack make sure that they have a lot of padding but are also firm. This will help to ensure that the back remains in position in the centre of your back and so helping you to keep your balance as you walk. Although they should fit snuggly against your body they should still allow you to move your arms and upper body easily.

5. When considering buying any of the rucksacks now available make sure that yours has a good hip belt fitted to it. This is crucial as this is what will be bearing most of the weight carried inside yours. By having a good fitting hip belt will also mean that when carrying yours it feels comfortable and helps to reduce the amount of strain being placed on your back.
