A pea coat is a superb way to stay warm during those cold months of the year. Designers have taken this sailor look and redesigned it in a way suitable for anyone to wear. The original coat came only in navy blue, but now you can find it in a rainbow of colors. Brighter colors like yellow or red are now available as well for a more exciting looking style. These colors capture they eye of onlookers and truly make a statement.

The color is not all that has changed when it comes to winter pea coats. The buttons and sleeve styles of these coats have also evolved over the years. Instead of the simple matching buttons, designers have now put on toggles or large shinier buttons to make the coats look much more stylish and fashionable.

The basic sleeve has also changed. You can find accessorized sleeves and even kimono sleeves. These changes have brought the pea coat into modern fashion while preserving its original style. One should also consider the material that these coats are made in when looking for one of these coats. In the beginning pea coats only came in wool. To make sure you have the warmest coat you need a coat that is 100% wool, not a cotton/wool blend. If you don't like the heaviness of a wool coat, try looking for cashmere, it's just as warm but considerably lighter.

These coats have become quite stylish throughout the years. The pea coat covers your upper body allowing you to show off your warm winter pants. Pea coats have clean lines and do not look like a bulky winter coat. They are a great addition to your winter wear.

Both men and women look good in pea coats. If it is time to get a new winter coat, consider the pea coat as a great addition to your wardrobe.
